چکیده
Santorini is located in the central part of Hellenic Volcanic Arc (South Aegean Sea) and well known for Late-Bronze-Age “Minoan” eruption that may have been responsible decline great Minoan civilization on island Crete. To use gravity to probe internal structure volcano determine whether there are temporal variations due near surface changes, we construct two maps. Dionysos Satellite Observatory (DSO) National Technical University Athens (NTUA) carried out terrestrial measurements December 2012 September 2014 at selected locations Thera, Nea Kameni, Palea Therasia, Aspronisi Christiana islands. Absolute values were calculated using raw data every station all datasets. The results compared with performed July 1976 by DSO/NTUA absolute derived from Military Geographical Service (HMGS) other sources. Breathing modes of Kolumbo submarine volcano (Santorini, Greece)
Submarine volcanoes, such as Kolumbo (Santorini, Greece) are natural laboratories for fostering multidisciplinary studies. Their investigation requires the most innovative marine technology together with advanced data analysis. Conductivity and temperature of seawater were recorded directly above Kolumbo's hydrothermal vent system. The respective time series have been analyzed in terms of non-e...
متن کاملForecasting magma-chamber rupture at Santorini volcano, Greece
How much magma needs to be added to a shallow magma chamber to cause rupture, dyke injection, and a potential eruption? Models that yield reliable answers to this question are needed in order to facilitate eruption forecasting. Development of a long-lived shallow magma chamber requires periodic influx of magmas from a parental body at depth. This redistribution process does not necessarily caus...
متن کاملSandflies on the island of Corfu, Greece.
The island of Corfu is an endemic area of human leishmaniasis, mainly visceral and secondly cutaneous. In August 1996, a survey of phlebotomine sandflies was conducted throughout the whole island. Using castor-oil paper traps, a total of 2,615 sandflies were caught. The following species were identified: 450 (17.21%) Phlebotomus neglectus, 213 (8.15%) P. tobbi, 129 (4.93%) P. perfiliewi, 12 (0....
متن کاملZoned, birefringent garnets from Thera Island, Santorini Group (Aegean Sea)
A garnetite that occurs locally in phyllitic schists exposed by the Santorini caldera consists mainly of euhedral garnet crystals showing alternating isotropic and birefringent lamellae. X-ray diffraction revealed two garnets with unit cell dimensions a of I2.o52:ko-oo2 and I~'984-ko-oo5 A, corresponding respectively to almost pure andradite and a granditic phase. Mean compositions determined b...
متن کاملOlive Tree-Ring Problematic Dating: A Comparative Analysis on Santorini (Greece)
Olive trees are a classic component of Mediterranean environments and some of them are known historically to be very old. In order to evaluate the possibility to use olive tree-rings for dendrochronology, we examined by various methods the reliability of olive tree-rings identification. Dendrochronological analyses of olive trees growing on the Aegean island Santorini (Greece) show that the det...
